THE LAST OF US
INSPIRED LEVEL DESIGN CHAPTER X: BEFORE THE HOSPITAL
[Intro]
It is the end of winter, Ellie and Joel feel the spring wind on the way. Snow tracks are dissolving with the green plants and it looks like greener than before. They walk off the highway of Salt Lake City, the whole city like metal jungle covered by plenty of green foliage. Birds are singing for another spring in the distance, and Ellie feels like more cheerful, Joe noticed her step already not so heavy.
Then, they find the big brand of the mall block the left path, Joe lift up the giant brand let Ellie climb through.
“Wow, a big warehouse!” Ellie said. There is a supermarket connect with a mall, a perfect shelter for travellers.
“Yeah, it was a mall, people pick up groceries and other stuff here,” Joel explained.
Suddenly, men’s talking appears in the front.
“Get down!” Joe whispered. He should know this big supply centre must have a bunch of Hunters here.
“Another fucking fight,” Joel thought.
Location: Parking lot of the mall, back stairs of the mall
Combat: Stealth
Enemies: Hunter
Mood: Intense and quiet, with birds’ tweet
Hunters block the way into the city, Joel and Ellie must go through the mall. But the enemy guarding the parking lot in front of the store. They must be heading over without the alarm.
[Beat 1]
Location: Interior of the mall
Combat: None
Enemies: None
Mood: Peaceful
Joel and Ellie got inside the mall and walked towards the food store, seems like most of the food had already been taken away. They into the hall of the mall, the straight path is blocked, and they find a store’s ceiling is open. It is a clothes shop, Joel saw a familiar jacket, and he thought Sarah (his daughter) would love it. “It is a cool jacket, I would take it to the ball!” Ellie said with a funny tone.
“Do you know what the ball is?” Joel asked.
“My friend told me, it's just stupid school kids dancing, sounds fun,” Ellie replied.
“Yeah,” Joel said calmed. “Stupid School Kids.”
Then they work together to climb to the second floor.
[Beat 2]
Location: A shop, 2nd floor
Combat: Shooting with cover, running
Enemies: Hunters ambush
Mood: Excited
Joel and Ellie escaped from the encounter’s ambush, and they finally reached the end area of the mall.
Get out of the building, they block the back door then have a big breath finally!
Now they are in the backyard of the mall, the sunlight touches their face and feels like spring getting closer.

[Outro]
Getting out of the mall, Ellie saw Joel searching his bag.
“What’s missing?” Ellie shouted.
Joel took a jacket from the bag, the same one from the shop in the mall, and Joel handed it over to Ellie.
“You might wanna take it to Ball, right?” Joel said.
Ellie hesitated a second and took the jacket then put it on. Joel has a moment to think he saw Sarah, but it is just a second, nothing matters now. The important thing is to find that hospital.
“Hmmm…Joel,” Ellie said carefully.
“What?” Joel said.
“Thanks, Joel,” Ellie said and walked away.
The Quarantine Zone just waiting for them in the next.
